Moore, Smith lead Bucs through first day of The Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate

AIKEN, S.C. - Charleston Southern sits seventh overall through two rounds at The Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate hosted at the Palmetto Golf Club.

The Bucs are one stroke back of No. 31 USC Aiken and sit 9-over through the first 36 holes of the tournament. Connor Moore and Brandon Smith lead the Bucs and sit tied for 21st in the field at 2-over par.

No. 37 South Carolina set the course record and sits 23-under par through the first two rounds to lead the 18-team tournament. Virginia, No. 13 Clemson, UAB, and Memphis round out the top five in the tournament.

Moore was even par through the first 18 holes on the day as the sophomore carded a 70. He birdied holes 1 and 11 in the first round to sit 11th through the first round. He added a birdie on the 18th hole in round two to finish two-over par and sit tied for 21st overall in the field.

Brandon Smith added CSU's low round of the day in the second round to move up 32 spots in the field over the final 18 holes. The junior carded five birdies over the second round on his way to posting a second-round 67, 3-under par. It offset his first round 75 as he sits tied with Moore for 21st overall in the field.

Brandon McBride sits tied for 40th overall in the field after posting a 70-75 through his first two rounds of the tournament. The freshman put together seven birdies through his 36 holes, including going under par twice on both holes eight and 10.

Elliot Gothe bounced back from a first round 76 to post an even-par 70 over his final 18 holes of the day. The junior birdied 17 and 18 to start the round and added a birdie on the fifth hole to cap off a second-round comeback and sit tied for 44th overall.

Freshman Alan Smith went 70-77 over his two rounds to sit tied for 51st overall in the field through the first 36 holes. He posted birdies on the fourth, eighth, and ninth holes in his first round of the day.

The Buccaneers are back on the course tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. with CSU teeing off on holes 7, 8, and 9 for the final round of the tournament.
