GREENVILLE, S.C. - Charleston Southern cut five more strokes off their second round score as the Buccaneers moved up one spot to finish seventh overall in the Furman Intercollegiate.
CSU carded a team score 287, 3-over-par, to finish seventh overall in the field and tops among Big South Conference schools in the tournament. Presbyterian (12th), Winthrop (18th), and High Point (T-19th) rounded out the conference slate in the three-day event held at the Furman University Golf Course.
The Buccaneers finished the weekend with a 24-over-par score over the three rounds. Coastal Carolina (7-under-par) and Davidson (3-under-par) were the top two teams in the field, while Furman, Virginia Tech, and Minnesota rounded out the top five.
Elliot Gothe finished tops among the Buccaneers in the field as the junior finished his final round with a 71, even-par. Gothe put in birdies on the second, 13th, and 15th holes to move up 12 spots to finish in a three-way tie for 22nd overall.
Brandon Smith finished up tied for 30th in the field after carding a 7-over-par, 78, in his final round. Smith birdied the 15th hole but struggled early in the round with a pair of double bogeys to finish 6-over-par for the tournament.
Alan Smith was 1-under-par on his final round to move up 22 spots on the final day of the tournament. The freshman birdied the second, ninth, and 18th holes to finish tied for 38th overall in the field at 7-over-par. Smith finished tied for 38th in the field.
Brandon McBride birdied the third and ninth holes to finish tied for 58th overall in the field. The freshman moved up 20 spots and improved his score in each of the three rounds to finish 11-over-par for the tournament.
Connor Moore rounded out the group of Bucs in the field as the sophomore finished 3-over-par for the day. Moore finished with a final round 74 to finish 19-over-par for the event.
Charleston Southern is back on the golf course on April 1-2 at the Wofford Invitational at the Country Club of Spartanburg.
