WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - Ryan Spiecha broke the Charleston Southern men's indoor shot put record for the second consecutive weekend to lead the Buccaneers at the Wake Forest Invitational this weekend at the JDL Fast Track.
Spiecha previously set the record with a distance of 15.26 meters last week at the Clemson Invitational. The freshman from Fayetteville, Ga. increased the mark this week with a throw of 15.27 meters to win the event title and lead three Buccaneers in the top five in the event.
Freshman Vincent Johnson led the Bucs in the 60m hurdles, winning his prelim meet and finishing second overall with a time of 8.26 in the prelims. Dadrekas Hill finished 22nd overall with a time of 9.36 in the event.
The Buccaneers' quartet of Brandon Damon, Josiah Scarlett, Keith Terry, and Jeyrk Wilson finished second among the field in the 4000m distance medley relay. CSU finished with a time of 10:39.05, six seconds behind Louisburg College among the field.
Joshua Paramore led CSU in the 60m dash after placing third overall in the preliminaries. Paramore crossed the line with a time of 6.94 to pace the Bucs. Justin Green finished 40th overall among the deep field with a time of 7.35, while Latristan Grimes rounded out the group with a time of 7.69 to finish 50th overall.
Paramore was CSU's top finisher in the 200m dash with a time of 23.01 to place 14th overall in the event. Green was 20th overall with a time of 23.15.
Scarlett was CSU's top finisher in the 400m event with a time of 52.46 to place 18th overall in the field. Terik Johnson (30th, 53.36) and Sheldon Townsend (53.39, 31st) also competed in the event on Saturday.
Wilson paced the Bucs with a 12th place finish in the 800m with a time of 2:0016. Damon finished two spots back in 14th with a time of 2:01.42.
Frankie Thomas placed fifth overall in the high jump event with a mark of 2.00m.
Charleston Southern continues the indoor season at the Camel City Invitational on February 3-4 in Winston-Salem, N.C. at the JDL Fast Track.
