Stintzi, Buccaneers announce 2017-18 track and field schedule

CHARLESTON, S.C. - For the second consecutive season, Charleston Southern will host three outdoor track and field events this spring as Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Jim Stintzi announced the 2017-18 indoor and outdoor schedules on Thursday afternoon.

CSU will open up the outdoor schedule with the CSU Spring Break Invitational on March 16-17. The Bucs will also host the Lowcountry Invitational (April 14) and the CSU Tune-Up (May 2) as a part of a challenging slate in place for CSU in 2017-18.

"The 2018 indoor and outdoor schedules will feature some big changes for the Buccaneers' track and field teams," Stintzi said. "Our competition schedule will include national caliber meets – such as the Commodore Invitational at Vanderbilt, the Florida Relays, and the Virginia Challenge. In addition, we will get a chance to mix it up with Big South rivals at the VMI Challenge (featuring Big South teams vs. SoCon Teams), the Liberty Elite Invitational and the CSU Spring Break Invitational."

The Bucs open the indoor season on the road at the Clemson Orange and Purple on January 6. CSU travels to Nashville, Tenn. the following weekend on January 12-13 for the Commodore Invitational hosted by Vanderbilt. CSU closes out the first month of the season at the VMI Challenge on January 27 in Lexington, Va.

CSU has one final tune-up before the Big South Indoor Championships as the Bucs make the trip to Lynchburg, Va. on February 9-10 for the Liberty Elite Invitational. The Big South Indoor Championships will be hosted by Liberty this season on February 23-24. The 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships will be held in Birmingham, Ala. on March 9-10.

The Bucs open up a fast-paced outdoor slate on March 16-17 with the CSU Spring Break Invitational. CSU heads to the road the rest of the month traveling to the Weems Baskin Invitational (March 23-24) and the Florida Relays (March 30-31).

CSU returns home to the Bagwell-Settle Track on April 7 for the Lowcountry Invitational. Back-to-back road trips to Charlotte, N.C. for the Charlotte Invitational (Apr. 13-14), and Charlottesville, Va. for the Virginia Challenge (Apr. 20-21) highlights the rest of the month.

The CSU Tune-Up closes out the regular season as the Bucs host their final event on May 2.

The 2018- Big South Outdoor Championships will be hosted by High Point University on May 9-11. The NCAA East Regionals will be held in Tampa, Fla. on May 24-26, while the NCAA Championships return to Eugene, Ore. on June 6-9.
