CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern will take one of the deepest fields in the country this weekend at the Pepsi Florida Relays hosted by the University of Florida this weekend at Percy Beard Track located inside James G. Pressley Stadium.
This Bucs are one of 100 institutions that will have teams represented at the track with competition set to run from Thursday, March 29 through Saturday, March 31. SEC Network+ will carry the action live on both Friday and Saturday, while live results will be provided by Delta Timing throughout the weekend.
Featuring one of the toughest fields in the nation, 14 ranked teams will take the field in the Florida Relays with seven of the top 25 men's teams and seven of the top 25 women's teams will be in competition.
No. 4 Florida, No. 9 Nebraska, No. 12 Virginia Tech, No. 13 South Carolina, No. 14 Mississippi State, No. 16 Penn State, and No. 22 Kentucky comprises the men's ranked teams. No. 8 Florida, No. 12 Kentucky, No. 13 Purdue, No. 16 Nebraska, No. 19 Florida State, No. 24 Tennessee, and No. 20 Virginia Tech will be represented on the women's side.
The host Gators are arguably the team to watch this weekend with Florida's men's team coming off back-to-back NCAA Outdoor Championships and the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championship. The women's team finished fourth at the Indoor Championships and fifth last season in the Outdoors.
The Buccaneers are two weekends into the outdoor season as they make the trek down to Gainesville, Fla. CSU debuted its outdoor slate with the CSU Spring Break Invitational at the Bagwell-Settle Track Complex on March 16-17. The Bucs split up the following weekend with the distance team traveling to the ADIDAS Winthrop Invitational, while the rest of the squad took on the Weems Baskin Invitational field in Columbia, S.C.
CSU claimed 12 individual titles overall at the CSU Spring Break Invitational including breakout performances in both sprints, jumps, and throwers. The distance team also had a standout showing over the opening weekend with freshman Fearghal Curtin earning conference Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week honors.
The Bucs shined again this past weekend at the Weems Baskin Invitational taking top three finishes in both the men's triple jump open and the women's shot put open. Timothy Davis paced the Bucs in the triple jump with a distance of 14.40m in his first attempt of the day to finish third in the field. Alexus Foreman placed in the top three in the shot put with a throw of 13.33m in her third attempt.
