Buccaneers compete on the first day of the Georgia Tech Invitational

ATLANTA, Ga. - Six Buccaneers were in the top 10 in their respective events on Friday to highlight Charleston Southern's opening day at the 2018 Georgia Tech Invitational.

The Bucs were among the leaders in the men's long jump, men's shot put, women's 1500m race, and the men's 1500m race.

Sprints/Hurdles
Caroline Edmondson led three Buccaneers in the women's 100m hurdles event as the sophomore placed 23rd in the field with a time of 14.70. Shantel Ardley was 29th after crossing the line in 15.32, while Kailya Jackson was 35th with a time of 15.68.

Vincent Jackson took on the field in the men's 110m hurdles with the sophomore athlete placing 20th in the field with a time of 15.12.

Jasmine Pilgrim took top honors in the women's 100m dash event on Friday evening. The senior sprinter placed 13th in the field with a time of 11.96. Diamond Rush was 52nd in the field with a time of 12.67.

Jumps
Niegel Simmons and Timothy Davis were both in the top 10 in the men's long jump event on Friday evening. Simmons was one of four athletes to clear seven meters in the event placing third overall with a distance of 7.05m. Davis achieved clean marks on all six attempts with his second going for 6.63m to place him eighth in the field.

Freshman Tamara Damjanovic was CSU's representative in the women's long jump event. She reached 5.03m on her first attempt to place 27th in the field.

Throws
Alexus Foreman led CSU's efforts in the women's shot put. The sophomore reached 12.51m on her second attempt of the day to place 11th in the field.

Ryan Spiecha was third in the men's shot put on Friday evening. He cleared 15-meters twice on the day with his final throw reaching 15.83m to place in the top three in the field.

Distance
Hayden Alexander was CSU's representative in the men's 3000m steeplechase event on Friday night. The freshman made his trek around the track seven and a half times in 9:50.75 to place 11th in the field.

Georgina Russell continues to impress as she finished in the top 10 in the women's 1500m race on Friday night. She finished sixth overall in the field with a time of 4:30.21 to lead the Bucs in the event.

Freshmen Fearghal Curtin and Andrew Akright were both in the top six in the men's 1500m race to pace three Bucs who took on the field. Curtin was fourth overall with a time of 3:49.43, while Akright crossed the line in 3:53.62 in sixth place. Joshua Bowers placed 27th in the field in 4:03.29.

Lydia Frierson was CSU's top finisher in the women's 5000m race to close out the women's events on the day. The senior distance runner crossed the line fourth in the second heat and 18th overall with a time of 17:50.65.

Matt Inman led three Buccaneers in the top 25 in the men's 5000m race on the day. Inman was 13th in the field with a time of 14:53.70, while Trevor Dominy was 19th overall with a time of 15:02.36. Adam Huff rounded out the group in 24th with a time of 15:12.05.
