CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern cross country teams will be back in action this weekend at the 36th annual Will Wilson Citadel Invitational on Saturday at James Island County Park. The event is scheduled to start with the women's 5K race at 9 a.m. followed by the men's 8K at 9:45 a.m.
Last season, Charleston Southern women's team was led by the Jessie Dotson's top overall finish as the Buccaneers took second overall behind host The Citadel. Caleb Breeden paced the Bucs' men with a ninth place finish as CSU finished fourth overall among the field.
Freshman Jeryk Wilson paced the CSU men's cross country team in the season opener on September 3 at the Carolina Classic with a sixth place finish. He ran the 5K course in 16:29.27 to lead the Bucs against the field as CSU finished fourth overall as a team. Sophomores Brandon Duncan, Keith Terry, and Caleb Edgehill, as well as freshman Matthew Davis, comprised the squad in the first race of the season for CSU.
On the women's side, senior Madison Burkholder led a young CSU team against the field at the Carolina Classic as the Bucs finished seventh in the team standings. Burkholder completed the course in 20:42.59 to finish 22nd overall in the standings. Freshmen Kaitlyn Black, Areale Frazier, and Nina Massie, and sophomore Traci Drayton joined Burkholder among the field in the Bucs' first action of the season.
Charleston Southern will be joined at the meet by teams from Benedict College, The Citadel, Claflin, Francis Marion, Morris College, Savannah State, South Carolina State and Wofford. Medals will be awarded to the top 10 men and women in both Divisions I and II.
Admission to the park to watch the day's races will be $2 per person. Results from the race will be available at CSUSports.com following the competition.
