Charleston Southern looks to continue its strong start to the 2018 season as the Buccaneers hit the road at the Penn State National Open this Friday. The Buccaneers take on a deep field at State College in their final tune-up prior to the Big South Championships held on October 26.
CSU has only been able to compete as a team twice in 2018, but the Buccaneers have been dominant in both races recording the team title at both the Buccaneer Open and the Charleston Classic. Junior Jeryck Wilson took top individual honors at the Charleston Classic to lead CSU as the Bucs took four of the top five spots and five of the top seven in the event.
Wilson's individual efforts earned the Athens, Ga. native Big South Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week recognition for the first time in his collegiate career. Jaymee Domoney (2nd), Trevor Dominy (4th), and Matt Inman (5th) rounded out the top five at the Charleston Classic in one of the most dominant finishes in CSU history.
Andrew Akright, David Bergamasco, and Benjamin Eddy will also make the trip for Coach Jim Stintzi as the Buccaneers look to build off their early season momentum as they take on their toughest field to date.
Five of the 22 men's teams in the field are ranked among the top 30, while Michigan State is also receiving votes in the latest polls. Arkansas (16), Eastern Kentucky (18), Virginia Tech (19), Iona (27), and Georgetown (29) are all among the tops in the nation. They will battle the strong field over the 5.2-mile course.
Charleston Southern heads back to Kernersville, N.C. on October 26 for the Big South Cross Country Championships hosted by High Point University.
