CHARLESTON, S.C. - With students back on campus and fall workouts beginning in the coming weeks, CSU softball head coach Shane Winkler has announced the release of the 2013 fall softball schedule for the Buccaneers.
Charleston Southern opens up their 2013 slate with a pair of doubleheaders at home in September, before back-to-back road contests against in-state and local rivals in October lead up to the Alumni Game on October 19th.
"I'm really looking forward to this fall season," said Winkler on the return of the team to campus for fall workouts. "We have a great mixture of returners, newcomers and redshirt seniors returning and I couldn't be more excited to get them all onto the field together and begin building a championship-caliber team."
The fall schedule opens on September 14th with a doubleheader at home against Columbia College and continues inside the friendly confines of the CSU Softball Complex the following weekend on the 21st as the Bucs host USC Beaufort in another twinbill.
"This fall schedule is going to test our team in a variety of ways," commented Winkler. "It's nice to start off with two home double headers against Columbia College and USC-Beaufort in order to get our team the experience of playing together before having the opportunity to test ourselves against two very good programs on the road at USC and College of Charleston."
CSU makes heads to the road on back-to-back weekends on October 4 and 11 as Charleston Southern takes on South Carolina on the 4th, while the Bucs travel to local rival College of Charleston on the 11th.
CSU closes out their fall season at home in a fashion that has Winkler excited about in the Alumni Game.
"Our alumni game is a fun way to get one final opportunity to compete as a team to close out fall ball while also reconnecting with our former players who meant so much to this program," said Winkler about the fall season finale.
