Winkler, Buccaneers add Baro to the 2014-15 CSU Softball signing class

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern softball team and head coach Shane Winkler has announced the signing of Stephanie Baro to a National Letter of Intent to come to CSU for the 2014-15 season.

Baro becomes the fifth player to commit to Charleston Southern for the 2014-15 class, joining fellow signees Taylor Powell, Brooke Lein, Cierra Robinson and Hayley Elkins to the Buccaneers' squad for next season.

"I'm excited to welcome Stephanie to the Buccaneer family! She is going to add some much needed power to our lineup and has the ability to play multiple positions," Winkler had to say about the addition of Baro to the 2014-15 signing class. "Stephanie has the potential to be one of the most powerful hitters in the Big South during her time here and I'm looking forward to her joining us in the fall. The future is very bright with the players we've added for next year along with all the young players we will have returning."

Baro comes to Charleston Southern by way of La Mirada High School in La Mirada, Calif., where she lined up at first base, third base, outfield and inside the circle. She also played on the California Cruisers 18 Gold team, lining up at the same positions.

Among her highlights include earning 2014 Woodbridge All-

Tournament team honors and 2013 Pismo Classic All-Tournament team honors. She was also named to the Arroyo Grande All-Tournament Team in 2013. She also was named the Defensive Player of the Year in 2012 and was a two-time CIF Finalist.

A life-long avid softball player, Baro was drawn to Charleston Southern for multiple reasons.

"CSU will allow me to further my education and play competitive softball in a great environment," Baro said about joining the Buccaneers. "I also have faith in the direction that the softball program is headed."

Charleston Southern wraps up the 2014 regular season this weekend at home against Big South rival Campbell starting on Friday afternoon, with first pitch in the doubleheader scheduled for 2 p.m. The Bucs and Camels wrap up Senior Weekend at the CSU Softball Field on Saturday with festivities starting on the field at 2 p.m.
