CHARLOTTE, N.C. (www.BigSouthSports.com) – Charleston Southern first baseman Marci Christian has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Softball Player of the Week, while teammate Cheyenne Gandara has been named The Crons Brand Pitcher of the Week for games played the week of Feb. 16-22, as announced today by the Conference office.
Christian led the Bucs to a 4-1 weekend, as she connected on a team-high four home runs, with six runs scored and eight RBI while recording a 1.059 slugging percentage. The redshirt-senior hit a pair of home runs against North Carolina A&T on Saturday and two against Tennessee Tech on Sunday, clinching the win in both games.
Gandara recorded the first two 10-strikeout performances of her career in back-to-back games to lead CSU's pitching efforts on the weekend. The sophomore right-hander finished the weekend 2-1 with a 1.94 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 18 innings pitched. She struck out 10 batters against both North Carolina A&T and Tennessee Tech. In the nightcap against the Golden Eagles, Gandara picked up her first save of the season.
The duo are the first CSU softball players to earn conference honors in the 2015 season.
