CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Buccaneers welcome College of Charleston to the CSU Softball Field for a midweek game this week as Charleston Southern steps out of conference play to take on the Cougars on Wednesday afternoon with first pitch slated for 4 p.m.
The Bucs and Cougars have faced off 20 times in the tenure of head coach Shane Winkler and CSU and CofC have split the matchups down the middle with both sides winning 10 games apiece in the series.
Last season, the Bucs lost all four contests to the Cougars, falling twice at home and twice on the road at the Patriots Point Athletics Complex.
The Bucs enter the midweek matchup after winning five of their past six gamesincluding Big South series victories over Campbell and Winthrop. College of Charleston has been on a bit of a skid lately, falling in five of their past seven, although the Cougars rebounded this past weekend in taking two of three from Delaware to take the series.
Recapping CSU's last week…
Marci Christian surged at the plate this week in leading the Bucs to a 5-1 record with five home runs, nine RBI and eight runs scored while hitting .421 from the plate. Christian connected on her 37th career home run against Winthrop this weekend, breaking CSU's all-time record held previously by Jana Matthews (36, 2009-13).

Natalie Yonan came up with two big hits for the Bucs this week as the junior second baseman connected on the game-winning two-run home run in CSU's 4-2 win over Campbell on Tuesday, and the walk-off single in the bottom of the 12th inning in the Bucs' 3-2 win over Winthrop on Saturday.
Cheyenne Gandara briefly held the CSU single season home run record as the sophomore pitcher connected on a solo shot against Winthrop on Friday to give her 16 home runs on the season. She finished the week with two home runs and three RBI.
Jennifer Giles had a dominant performance inside the circle to close out the week against Winthrop. The senior right-hander went the final 10 innings, allowing five hits and two unearned runs, while striking out nine in the contest. She retired 10 batters in a row at one point and only allowed one hit past the fifth inning, a single by Maddie Antone in the top of the eighth, in picking up her 10th win of the season.
Hayley Elkins also impressed inside the circle this week with a team-best 0.95 ERA in three appearances. The freshman hurler struck out nine batters in 7.1 innings.
The Bucs jump back into Big South play this weekend as they host Liberty in a three-game set on April 11-12 at the CSU Softball Field. CSU will recognize seniors Jennifer Giles and Marci Christian during Senior Weekend festivities at the field. First pitch on both days is set for 1 p.m.
