CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) - Charleston Southern freshman Arizona Pilgrim was named the Big South Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Pilgrim made her collegiate weekend debut one to remember as the freshman pitcher picked up a pair of wins in CSU's victories over IPFW on Saturday.
Pilgrim pitched the final four innings in the Bucs' 9-4 win over IPFW, and added three shutout innings in a start against the Mastodons in the nightcap to go 2-0 on the week with a 0.00 ERA.
The freshman pitcher made her collegiate debut against IPFW on Friday night in the top of the fourth, hurling a shutout inning before play was suspended due to nightfall. Saturday morning Pilgrim closed out the contest pitching around a pair of CSU errors that allowed three unearned runs in closing out the Bucs' 9-4 win over IPFW. She had a pair of strikeouts in the game.
In the second game, Pilgrim pitched around four hits over the first three innings, striking out one in holding IPFW scoreless as the Bucs built a 3-0 lead. The freshman struck out her final batter of the game to end the top of the third, catching IPFW's Kelly Pevely on strikes to end the inning.
The Buccaneers continue their tournament schedule this weekend as CSU hosts Boston, Western Carolina and North Carolina A&T on February 19-21 at the CSU Softball Field.
