SB Preview: Buccaneers host Senior Weekend against Presbyterian

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern returns to action this weekend as the Buccaneers host Presbyterian for a three game series at the CSU Softball Field. CSU will host their annual Breast Cancer Awareness games in Saturday's doubleheader, while the Bucs will recognize their 2016 senior Natalie Yonan prior to Sunday's series finale. All three games on the weekend will be broadcast on the Big South Network.

The Buccaneers enter the weekend tied for fifth in the Big South standings with Campbell with a 9-12 overall record in conference play. The Bucs and Camels are both one game ahead of Presbyterian (8-13) with three games to play on the season before the 2016 Big South Championships.

Natalie Yonan continues to climb the CSU career record books heading into her final games at the CSU Softball Field. Yonan enters the weekend fifth all-time in career games played at 225 and fourth in career assists at 401. Yonan has also added to her highlight reel this season with home runs against Coastal Carolina and Winthrop, as well as leading the Bucs with eight doubles on the season.

This Weekend's Quick Hits…
*Charleston Southern, Campbell and Presbyterian are in a tight race for the No. 5 seed in the Big South Championships heading into the final weekend of the regular season. The Buccaneers and Camels (9-12) are tied for fifth overall in the standings, while Presbyterian is a game behind both teams at (8-13).

*Charleston Southern fell in all three contests against the Blue Hose last season, dropping the regular season doubleheader in Clinton and falling in the Big South semifinals, 5-1.

*Last time in Charleston, the Blue Hose took the season series from the Buccaneers on March 22-23, 2014. The Bucs took the opening game from Presbyterian, 6-2, behind doubles from Jessica Brock and Brooke Holcomb, while falling in a pair of shutouts in the doubleheader.

*One year after connecting on back-to-back home runs in three games, the Buccaneers finally went deep in back-to-back at-bats in the 2016 season as Caitlyn Emberson and Brittany McPherson both connected in the third inning against Coastal Carolina in their loss to the Chanticleers.

*Natalie Yonan will be recognized as CSU's lone 2016 senior this upcoming weekend against Presbyterian with Yonan sitting fourth all-time in career games played and fifth all-time in career assists with the Buccaneers.

*Caitlyn Emberson has continued to swing the hot bat for the Buccaneers over the past 10 games with the freshman catcher hitting .500 from the plate with a team-high 15 hits in 30 at-bats. Over the 10 game stretch, Emberson has led the team with six home runs, two doubles, 10 runs scored and nine RBI.

*Natalie Yonan is tied for the team RBI lead over the past 10 games with nine RBI and is also tied with Emberson with two doubles over the same 10 game stretch.

*Amanda Matsumoto continues to lead the Big South Conference with 29 stolen bases, but her lead has narrowed over the past two weeks. Matsumoto's 29 paces Liberty's Tori Zavodny (28), Coastal Carolina's Bri Chiusano (25) and Radford's Marissa Gagliano (24) with three games to play.

*Caitlyn Emberson has been one of the top freshmen in the Big South Conference in the 2016 season and continues to impress in conference play on the year. Emberson has hit .426 in Big South play on the year and is third in slugging percentage (.796) and sixth in on-base percentage (.530) against conference opponents.

*Jade Gandara has been the Bucs' top hitter at the CSU Softball Field with the freshman outfielder pacing the CSU offense with a .404 batting average with three home runs and 11 RBI.

*Arizona Pilgrim has been lights-out for the Bucs at home with the freshman right-hander going 6-2 in the circle with a 2.54 ERA and a 27:9 strikeout-to-walk ratio.

*Brittany McPherson continues to provide the power outlet for the Buccaneers in the 2016 season with the junior utility player leading CSU with nine home runs on the season.

*Amanda Matsumoto continues to lead the Buccaneers in hits (52), runs (30) and walks (24) on the season to go with her stolen base lead.

*Charleston Southern has an addition to the 2016 roster making her debut this weekend as senior Chelsea Frankeny joins the team down the stretch. Frankeny will see time as a runner for Head Coach Shane Winkler after a standout career on the Buccaneers' soccer team.

*Presbyterian enters the weekend with a 22-25 overall record, but the Blue Hose have lost seven of their past eight including series sweeps against Radford and Longwood. PC's last series win came against Campbell on April 2-3 in Buies Creek, N.C.

*PC's has won two Big South Conference series on the season, sweeping Winthrop in Clinton, S.C., while winning two of three at Campbell.

*The Blue Hose have also posted Big South wins over Coastal Carolina, Gardner-Webb and Liberty.

*Presbyterian's offense has been led on the season by Megan Anderson's .348 batting average with a team-high 47 hits and 36 RBI.

*Hope Rogers has been the power bat in the lineup for the Blue Hose with a team-high 13 home runs and 28 runs scored on the season.

*Kelsie Sanchez (.325) and Erin Ruff (.321) are also hitting above .300 on the season with Ruff leading the Blue Hose with 15 stolen bases. Jonnie Petree has also been a threat on the base paths with 14 steals on the year.

*The duo of Sydney Seigler and Katie Brown have led Presbyterian inside the circle in the 2016 season with the duo connecting on matching 10-12 records. Seigler leads the team with 96 strikeouts and three shutouts in the circle on the year.

*The 2016 Big South Championships run from May 11-14 at Terry Field in Rock Hill, S.C. on the campus of Winthrop University.
