CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern fell in both ends of Saturday's doubleheader to visiting Presbyterian, dropping the first contest, 5-0, while falling in the nightcap, 3-2.
Jade Gandara went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBI in the second game of the afternoon to pace the CSU offense, while Amanda Matsumoto recorded a pair of hits and her 30th stolen base of the season in the loss.
CSU and Presbyterian will close out the series tomorrow afternoon at the CSU Softball Field with first pitch set for 1 p.m. The Bucs will recognize 2016 senior Natalie Yonan prior to the contest.
Game One: Presbyterian 5, Charleston Southern 0
Presbyterian jumped out to an early lead in the first inning and cruised behind a standout performance in the circle by Sydney Seigler in taking the first game of Saturday's doubleheader, 5-0.
Stephanie Baro broke up Seigler's (11-12) no-hit bid with one out in the bottom of the sixth, but CSU was unable to push a run across in the shutout. Seigler went the distance allowing two walks and a hits' batsman in the win.
Hayley Elkins (10-23) suffered the loss for the Bucs in the complete game effort, allowing nine hits and five runs (four earned), while striking out four.
PC jumped ahead 3-0 in the top of the first. Megan Anderson driving in Jenna Harris with an RBI single, while Kelsie Sanchez followed with an RBI double to left field bringing in Hope Rogers. Anderson later scored on an errant throw on a pickoff attempt to give the Blue Hose the three-run margin.
Anderson added a solo home run in the fifth and an RBI single in the seventh to close out the scoring in the Blue Hose victory.
Game Two: Presbyterian 3, Charleston Southern 2
Charleston Southern's seventh inning rally fell short as the Buccaneers were unable to comeback against the Blue Hose in the nightcap in falling, 3-2.
Jade Gandara singled in Cierra Robinson with two outs to narrow the PC lead to 3-2 with two outs in the frame. However, on the play, Gandara tripped up attempting to get back to first base and was tagged out to end the contest in favor of the Blue Hose.
Arizona Pilgrim (9-7) suffered the loss for CSU in the contest, allowing six hits and three runs while striking out five in the complete game effort. PC's Katie Brown (11-12) picked up the win, scattering seven hits and two runs, while striking out two.
Presbyterian took the early 1-0 lead in the top of the third as Madison Longanecker scored on Hope Rogers' sacrifice fly to right field.
The Bucs answered in the fifth on Gandara's RBI double to the left centerfield gap. The two-bagger drove in Amanda Matsumoto from first on the plate to even the game up at 1-1.
PC took the 3-1 lead in the top of the seventh with Kylie Young connecting on a pinch-hit RBI double scoring Jonnie Petree, while Kersten Legacki scored on a suicide squeeze bunt dropped down by Rebekka Gross.
CSU mounted a rally in their final at-bats as Robinson scored on Gandara's double, but the Bucs comeback fell short in the loss.
