CHARLESTON, S.C. – The Charleston Southern softball team and head coach Shane Winkler announced the signing of Hannah Cannon to join the CSU squad in the 2017-18 season.
Cannon signs with Charleston Southern by way of Thomas Hayward Academy where she led the team to three state championship runner-ups. The catcher also lined up for the Carolina Elite travel ball team and competed in the 2015 Nationals. Cannon has recorded 35 career home runs, with 25 home runs and 105 RBIs in high school ball for a career .381 batting average. She was a five-year varsity starter and four-time All-Region, three-time HSSR All-State and SCISA Scholar Athlete. Cannon also played in the North/South All-Star game and was a recipient of the Slugger Award and Coach's Award.
From Cannon -- "I chose Charleston Southern University because I was immediately drawn to the small campus atmosphere. I firmly believe in the staff's coaching philosophies and they make me feel at home. Charleston Southern was simply the perfect fit for me that will allow me to flourish."
Winkler on Cannon -- "Hannah is one of the hardest working recruits we have ever had. She has a ton of power potential and will add depth behind the plate for us. She's the type of player that is going to grow a great amount while in our program and will push others around her to do so as well. I'm excited to officially welcome Hannah to the Buccaneer Family!"
Cannon joins six other signees of the 2017-18 season: third base/utility player Sarah Brown of Sheldon High School, outfielder Meghan Gagliano of Wheaton Academy, right-handed pitcher Nina Del Rio of Brea Olinda High School, shortstop Madison Koger of Fairfield High School, right-handed pitcher Alyssa Heinrich of Wando High School and middle-infielder/outfielder Taylor Gleason of May River High School.
