Buccaneers continue to sit among national, Big South leaders following first two weekends

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern continues to sit among the national leaders and the Big South leaders in multiple categories following the second weekend of the 2018 season.

The Bucs sit in the top 50 in the NCAA team and individual leaders in multiple categories. CSU is 21st in the country in slugging percentage (.526), 31st in home runs per game (1.11), 33rd in scoring (6.22), and 35th in batting average (.316). Individually, Caitlyn Emberson, Mallory Kasinger, Jade Gandara, Sarah Brown, and Holly Clark are all ranked in the top 50.

Brown makes an appearance in the top 10 in the NCAA as the freshman is currently ninth in the country with two sacrifice flies on the year. Holly Clark is 13th in the NCAA in overall shutouts with two. Caitlyn Emberson continues to pace the Bucs and is 15th in the country in hit by pitches per game at 0.56. Mallory Kasinger is 24th in the country in total doubles (4) and 41st in toughest to strikeout (26.0). Gandara dots three NCAA individual categories including hits, home runs, and toughest to strikeout. The junior from Hemet, Calif. is 31st in total home runs with three, 47th in hits with 14, and 27th in toughest to strikeout at 28.0.

In the Big South rankings, the Bucs lead the conference in slugging percentage (.526) courtesy of this past weekend's power surge. CSU is also top three in multiple hitting categories including on-base percentage (.388), runs scored (56), RBI (53), doubles (13), home runs (10), total bases (113), hit by pitch (8), and stolen bases (12).

With their early-season success in the circle as well, the Bucs are top three in earned run average (2.12), opponent batting average (.205), wins (6), walks allowed (11), and triples allowed (0).

CSU also has a number of individuals that dot near the top of the Big South statistical standings with Mallory Kasinger, Caitlyn Emberson, and Jade Gandara all sitting among the batting leaders.

Kasinger is second in the conference with four doubles on the year. Emberson is among the conference leaders in on-base percentage (.567) and hit by pitch (5). Gandara is among the Big South leaders in hits (14), RBI (12), home runs (3) and total bases (23).

CSU continues the 2018 season this upcoming weekend at the Willie Jewell's Invitational hosted at the CSU Softball Field over February 22-24. The Bucs will take on St. Bonaventure, Hartford, and George Mason over the three-day tournament.
