SB Preview: Bucs continue Big South play with weekend road series at Campbell

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern takes on another one of the Big South leaders this weekend as the Buccaneers make the trip to Buies Creek, N.C. to take on the Campbell University Camels. The Bucs and Camels will start the weekend with a Saturday doubleheader starting at 1 p.m., before closing out the series on Sunday at 1 p.m. with a single game.

Live stats for all three games are available on the CSU Softball Schedule page.

The Buccaneers (9-25, 3-3 Big South) are currently fourth in the conference standings heading into the third conference series of the season. CSU took two of the three games last weekend against Radford, and then followed up by securing the series finale against USC Upstate to remain .500 in conference play.

Sarah Brown went 4-for-4 in the finale against USC Upstate and connected on the walk-off single to put the Bucs in the win column against the Spartans. CSU relied heavily on the efforts of senior right-hander Arizona Pilgrim in the circle over the series, while Jade Gandara, Caitlyn Emberson, and Rhiana Hubbard joined Brown among the Bucs' offensive leaders.

Gagliano picked up her first multi-stolen base game of the season with a pair of steals on Wednesday against the Spartans. The Bucs picked up four steals overall in the game with Brown recording her team-leading ninth in the game.

Hubbard finished up with a double and her first collegiate home run in the series against the Spartans to highlight her first week of starting in center field for the Bucs. Arizona Pilgrim went the distance in her eighth complete game of the season.

Annie Bakenhus continues to lead CSU's offensive efforts with a .333 batting average to go with 35 hits, eight doubles, and 18 runs scored. Emberson is the team leader with five home runs and 19 RBI, while Jade Gandara is hitting .301 with 15 RBI on the year.

Campbell enters the weekend with a 13-15 mark overall on the season, including a 5-1 record in Big South play. The Camels took two of three from Winthrop on March 9-10, and then followed up by sweeping Hampton on the road last week to sit tied with USC Upstate for the conference lead.

Megan Mozingo leads the Camels through the season with a .370 batting average. The senior infielder paces Campbell with three home runs, 14 RBI, and a pair of triples over the early going. Bri Bryant is also among the hitting leaders with a .328 batting average, while Abby Perryman is hitting .326 from the plate on the year.

Megan Richards and Haley Hutchins have combined to pace the Camels in the circle this season. Richards has posted a 5.18 ERA with a 3-5 record in 12 appearances. Hutchins has a 33:17 strikeout-to-walk ratio with three complete games.
