Joel Gatchell

Joel Gatchell joined Charleston Southern in November of 2022 as an assistant athletic trainer. He spends his time primarily working with the Buccaneers’ Cross Country and Track and Field teams.
 
Prior to arriving at CSU, Gatchell served in roles with organizations that gave him experience working with nine different sports and varied from youth to semi-professional competition.
 
Outside of his sport specific responsibilities, he oversees inventory and the placement of orders for the athletic training department.
 
Gatchell earned his undergraduate degree in athletic training from Cedarville University in 2020 and completed his Master of Exercise Science from Liberty University in 2021. In the summer of 2025, Gatchell completed the Integrative Dry Needling Foundations Course for Neurological Dry Needling for Pain Management and Sports Rehabilitation.
 
While with the Yellow Jackets, he competed primarily as a middle-distance runner on the school’s cross country and track and field teams. During his junior season, he was an NCCAA All-American as a member of the 4x400 meter relay team that won the event at the 2019 National Indoor Championships with a time of 3:25.07.
