Leroy Cooper

Leroy Cooper joined Charleston Southern as the assistant to the associate athletic trainer in July of 2022 and to assist with the football team. Currently he works with the Buccaneer Softball team and has been with them since the spring 2023 season.
 
In addition to his team responsibilities, Cooper is a liaison to the graduate athletic training program for the university. Also, he serves as the head of technology for the staff in addition to being a key contributor in completing all the department’s necessary documentation. Lastly, he oversees the cleaning of the Buccaneer Fieldhouse's athletic training room's Hoshizaki ice machine. Cooper co-leads the teaching of CPR on campus as well and serves as the committee head for the South Carolina Athletic Training Soceity's College Committee.
 
Prior to arriving at CSU, Cooper worked at a pair of nearby high schools as the trainer, serving all the high school’s athletic programs. From 2020-2021, he was with Military Magnet High School and from 2021-2022 he was at RB Stall High School. He also assists with the Kiawah Marathons and a club rugby team in Mount Pleasant, S.C.
 
Cooper received his bachelor’s degree in athletic training at Slippery Rock University in 2019. When he is not working Charleston Southern athletics, Cooper works on the medical staff for concerts at Credit One Stadium. In his free time, he frequents the golf courses in the Charleston area, consistently shooting under 100 in those rounds. He married the formerly Jamie Menarde in June of 2025 and the couple is currently expecting their first child in the fall.
