CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern head women's basketball coach Fred Applin announced the addition of two players to the 2018-19 roster as Sharita Godfrey and Ahlea Myers will join next season's team.
"We are thrilled about the signing of two top prospects from the state of South Carolina," Applin said. "Their addition helps us to continue to be successful as a basketball team."
Godfrey, a 6-0 forward from Columbia, S.C., stars at Richland Northeast High School under coach Jabari Deas. Over the past three seasons, Godfrey has accumulated numerous accolades including being named to the 2016-17 All-Region team. She averages 12.2 points, 6.7 rebounds, 1.1 assists and 2.2 steals per game.
"Godfrey has great versatility to play on the perimeter and also score on the block," Applin said. "She can defend on the perimeter and score off the dribble. She brings a great dynamic to the team and can play inside or outside."
Myers, a 5-6 point guard from Columbia, S.C., lines up at Hammond School under coach Roshan Myers. She was a two-time Region Player of the Year and a four-time All-Region nominee. Myers was a High School Sports Report (HSSR) 3A Player of the Year in 2016-17 and a two-time HSSR All-State award recipient. She averages 14.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 2.9 steals per game.
"Myers is a hard-working, high-energy player that has a good skill set," Applin said. "She knows how to play the game. She's a very good guard with great court vision. She is exactly the kind of player we were looking for to continue to help the program be successful."
Applin feels that the addition of Godfrey and Myers will greatly improve the Buccaneers next season. He is confident that they will bring their hard work ethics both on and off the court to Charleston Southern.
"We have addressed our needs for this recruiting class," Applin said. "They are exactly what we wanted. Both Myers and Godfrey are great students and high-character people."
