CHARLESTON, S.C. – After leading the Charleston Southern women's basketball team to a perfect 2-0 week, senior guard Breannah Bretches has been named the Big South Co-Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Bretches, who became the first Buccaneer in two seasons to score 20-plus points in back-to-back games, paced the CSU offense with 20.5 points per game while shooting .533 from the floor, dishing out 3.0 assists, pulling down 5.5 boards and stealing 3.0 passes per contest. Her efforts helped push CSU to a perfect 2-0 with home wins over UNC Asheville and USC Upstate, giving the Bucs their first three-game win streak of the season.
A native of Fairbanks, Alaska, Bretches has quickly become the Bucs' second-leading scorer averaging 10.5 points on the season and has now led CSU in scoring four times and reached the 20-point mark each of her last two starts.
Bretches got off to a hot start Tuesday night scoring 15 first-half points as CSU never trailed in a 70-59 win to snap UNC Asheville's win streak. She followed with a 21-point effort as CSU cruised to a 74-62 win over USC Upstate for a regular season sweep.
Bretches also becomes the second CSU guard to be recognized this season after Ahlea Myers won Freshman of the Week on Dec. 3 after the Bucs' narrow loss at Georgia. The honor is also the first for Bretches as a Buccaneer.
CSU looks to continue their hot streak as they host third-place High Point Tuesday night seeking a perfect 4-0 start to February and four-game win streak. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. from the Buc Dome.
