CHARLESTON, S.C. – Charleston Southern takes to the road once again after a 2-1 homestand that saw wins over UNC Asheville and USC Upstate as well as senior guard Breannah Bretches take home Big South Co-Player of the Week.

The Bucs get their first crack at Hampton on the road as a Big South foe and seeks their fourth win away from the Buc Dome inside conference play. CSU also seeks to grab a win over every Big South institution after taking both meetings with USC Upstate and falling in their league opener against newcomer Hampton back on Jan. 5.

Both CSU and Hampton have three players averaging double figures with CSU led by Ke'Asia Jackson, Breannah Bretches and Rachel Burns. Hampton is paced by Ashley Bates, Laren Vanarsdale and Kaylah Lupoe with Bates and Vanarsdale each sitting among the top-4 in the Big South.

Last Time Out

  • After back-to-back 20-point games, senior guard Breannah Bretches scored 19 Tuesday night but a strong second half performance from High Point snapped Charleston Southern's win streak, 69-62.
  • Bretches had another strong offensive day scoring a game-high 19 and dishing out a team-best four assists, but CSU was unable to keep High Point from finding the lane and net over the final 10 minutes
  • The Panthers were led by 18 from Bria Gibson while Shea Morgan and Emma Bockrath had near double-doubles with 17 and 13 points as well as eight rebounds each. Morgan also dished out a game-high seven assists to fuel the Panther charge.
  • CSU carried leads after the first three periods and had a three-point halftime margin thanks to a buzzer-beating trey from Rachel Burns. She ended the night with eight points while fellow seniors Ke'Asia Jackson and Shelby Wilbanks turned in 16 and 12, respectively.

Scouting the Pirates

  • Paced by four players in double figures and 22 points from Ashley Bates, Hampton took the first matchup 74-66 inside the Buc Dome on Jan. 5 in their second all-time meeting.
  • Hampton enters the Saturday matchup with the second-most points per contest (68.0), No. 2 ranked field goal percentage (.401), third-best field goal percentage defense (.369), second-highest turnover margin (+4.96) and lead the conference in blocks and steals.
  • Bates, who tallied 22 against the Bucs, still paces the Pirates with 17.4 points per contest sitting second in the league. She's joined by Lauren Vanarsdale in the top-5 of the Big South (15.4 ppg) making Hampton the lone conference member with two of the top-5 scorers.
  • Kaylah Lupoe also averages 10.9 points per game to give the Pirates a trio in double figures, but the senior forward also paces the Big South with 2.9 blocks per game - nearly double anyone else's rejections this season.
  • Hampton has seen success in their first season as Big South members as they're the lone team to defeat Radford this season and boast a 9-2 record - good for second place in the conference standings.

A Win on Saturday Would

  • Give the Bucs their fourth road win inside Big South play this season.
  • Become CSU's fourth win this month after a three-game win streak to start February.
  • Give CSU a win over every Big South institution after defeating newcomer USC Upstate twice this season.
  • Give the Bucs six Big South wins this season, surpassing last year's five.
