Buccaneers lose to Lancers in 1-0 shutout on the road

FARMVILLE, Va. – Charleston Southern was held scoreless on Saturday afternoon as the Buccaneers fell to Longwood on the road, 1-0.

The contest at Longwood's Athletic Complex was the Buccaneers (6-9-1, 2-5-1) third match in four days.  The Lancers (7-9-1, 4-3-1) capitalized on the Bucs' disadvantage, with a strong performance consisting of a 26-1 shot advantage.  Longwood's defense also showed up, holding the Bucs shotless until the 87th minute.

After a scoreless first half, Longwood's Janese Quick found the back of the net with a corner kick in the 46th minute.  A strong breeze helped bend the shot into the far right post for the junior midfielder's fourth goal of the season.

Despite a tiresome week of matches, the Bucs displayed a valiant effort, but were unable to maintain possession or finish their runs for most of the game.  Defensively in the net, Liz Amanda Brown (4-4-1) gave a solid performance made up of eight saves, including an impressive leaping deflection of a hard shot on goal by Longwood's Emilie Kupsov in the 70th minute of the match.

The Buccaneers now turn their attention to their last regular season game as they welcome Liberty University to CSU Soccer Field on Tuesday.  Kickoff is set for 3 p.m.
