WTEN Preview: Buccaneers travel to Savannah State for Thursday afternoon matchup

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern continues the 2017 season on the road on Thursday afternoon as the Buccaneers travel to Savannah State and the Tiger Tennis Courts. First serve between the Bucs and SSU is set for 2 p.m.

The Buccaneers return to the road for the second time in 2017 after winning back-to-back matches this past weekend against Wofford and South Carolina State. CSU topped Wofford, 6-1, in their home opener on Saturday afternoon, and then added a 7-0 sweep over S.C. State on Sunday to improve to 2-1 on the season.

CSU's road opener came just one week ago with the Bucs falling 5-2 against UNC Wilmington at the UNCW Tennis Courts.

The Bucs swept their last matchup against Savannah State in the 2015 season as CSU topped the Lady Tigers at the Tiger Tennis Courts on February 21, 2015. CSU swept all three doubles matches and then followed up with wins on all six singles courts to take the 7-0 victory in non-conference action.

Kimberley Koerner and Yana Morar both sport perfect 3-0 records in singles play on the season with the former garnering Big South Women's Tennis Player of the Week recognition last week following her performance on singles court no. 4 and doubles court no. 3. Morar adds two wins on court no. 5 and a victory on court no. 6 in her first season with the Buccaneers.

Senior Valeria Koussenkova is also perfect on the season with a 2-0 record in singles play with wins on courts no. 3 and no. 5 on the year.

The doubles duos of Sophie Cloessner/Nicolin Luecke and Koerner/Femcke Van Rensburg are both 2-1 on the season on courts no. 1 and no. 3 respectively for CSU.

Savannah State has struggled on the season with a 0-5 record on the year with losses to Alabama State, Western Carolina, Wofford, Presbyterian, and Georgia Southern. The Lady Tigers have not won a point on the season.

CSU remains on the road this weekend as the Bucs travel to DeLand, Fla. for a trip to Stetson University. First serve in the Saturday matchup is set for 2 p.m. at the Mandy Stoll Tennis Center.
