Tennis sweeps South Carolina State in 2018 home opener

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern opened its 2018 home slate in style on Sunday afternoon as the Buccaneers topped South Carolina State, 7-0, at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex.

The Bucs (2-2) swept all three doubles matches and then carried the momentum over to singles play as all six in Coach Mike Baker's lineup recorded straight-set wins in the victory.

After nearly a month off since the Duckworth Doubleheader in Charlotte, N.C. on January 20-21, 2018, the Bucs wasted little time in jumping ahead of the Bulldogs from the get-go.

Sophie Cloessner and Madalina Man picked up an early 6-1 win on doubles court no. 1 over SCSU's Vasic and Bendahhou. Valeria Koussenkova and Filippa Ericson followed shortly with a 6-3 win on court no. 2, while the CSU duo of Yana Morar and Kimberley Koerner completed the doubles sweep with a 7-5 win on court no. 3.

Moving onto singles play and going down the lineup, the Bucs took all six points to close out their first sweep of the 2018 season.

Cloessner topped Vasic on court no. 1, 6-0, 6-3. Koussenkova, lining up at the no. 2 position, topped Mihajilovic, 6-1, 6-3. Ericson topped Sredojevic on court no. 3, 6-4, 6-0.

The Bucs' success continued with Man topping Bendahhou, 6-1, 6-1 on court no. 4. Koerner added a 6-2, 6-1 win over Roca, while Morar defeated Petreanu on court no. 6, 6-0, 6-3.
