CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern puts its 16 home match winning streak on the line on Friday morning as the Buccaneers welcome UNC Greensboro to the Buccaneer Tennis Complex for a non-conference match. Doubles play is set for 11 a.m. at the CSU home facility.
Live stats for Friday's match will be available with the link available on the CSU Women's Tennis schedule.
The Buccaneer Tennis Complex remains one of the toughest places for an opponent to come in and pick up a victory as CSU improved to 4-0 at home this year following a trio of victories over Savannah State, UNC Asheville, and Longwood. The Bucs' wins, going with CSU's 7-0 win over South Carolina State, have run the winning streak to 16 consecutive home wins dating back to the Bucs' 4-3 win over Liberty on April 2.
Cloessner's perfect 6-0 record last week helped lead CSU to a couple of conference wins and a 3-0 record. She earned three wins in both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles in three consecutive days. Man also boasted a perfect record on the week with a 5-0 mark at No. 4 singles and No. 1 doubles.
CSU's trio of wins boosted the Bucs' overall record to 5-3 on the season and 2-0 in conference play after struggling over their first five matches of the year.
The Buccaneers' match against UNC Greensboro is the final of the four-match homestand that started this past Friday against Longwood. CSU will be back on the road in Big South play this upcoming week with a Monday match against Campbell and Wednesday contest at Presbyterian.
Cloessner (5-1) leads the Bucs' singles efforts and enters the match on a five-match winning streak on court no. 1. Man is also on a significant streak on court no. 4 winning her last three matches, while Michelle Schmitz has picked up a pair of wins on court no. 6 over the last two matches.
All three doubles teams have winning streaks heading into the Friday match as well. Cloessner/Man (6-2) have won their last three on court no. 1, Filippa Ericson/Valeria Koussenkova (5-2) have won their last two on court no. 2, and Yana Morar/Kimberley Koerner (5-3) have won their last three on court no. 3.
Greensboro has hit a skid over the last two matches after opening the year 3-2 with a trio of wins over UNC Wilmington, Gardner-Webb, and UNC Asheville. The Spartans enter Friday's contest with back-to-back losses to Coastal Carolina and Liberty over the last weekend.
The UNC Greensboro lineup's depth has helped pace the Spartans on the season with Sophia Adams (6-1) and Brianna Gomez (7-0) combining to go 13-1 on courts 5 and 6 this season. Nancy Bridges sits atop the Spartans' lineup with a 4-3 mark on court no. 1.
The duo of Corinne Blythe and Alice Taylor paces Greensboro's doubles efforts with a 5-2 mark while lining up on courts 1 and 2.
