WTEN PREVIEW: Bucs continue conference play on the road at Presbyterian

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern continues Big South Conference play this week as the Buccaneers head to Clinton, S.C. and the Templeton Tennis Courts on Wednesday afternoon. CSU will take on host Presbyterian in the conference matchup with doubles play set to begin at 2 p.m.

CSU is riding a four-match winning streak heading into the contest with the Blue Hose with the Bucs boasting wins over Longwood, Savannah State, UNC Asheville, and UNC Greensboro over an eight-day span. The Bucs' quartet of wins came over March 2-9 and ran CSU's home winning streak to 16 consecutive matches.

The Bucs currently are in a three-way tie for the lead in the conference standings early in the Big South season. CSU (2-0), Winthrop (2-0), and Campbell (1-0) all boast undefeated records in conference play, while Radford and Liberty still have yet to face a conference opponent in 2018.

The conference boasts a strong record overall on the year with eight of the nine Big South teams entering the week with a .500 or better record. CSU (6-3), Winthrop (8-3), UNC Asheville (7-4), Campbell (6-5), Radford (6-5), and Longwood (4-3) all sit in the winning column early in the season.

The Bucs' first two conference matches this season have come at home at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex. CSU posted a 6-1 win over Longwood on March 2, and then followed up with a 5-2 win two days later at home against UNC Asheville.

CSU's road trip to Presbyterian starts the first of three conference road matches as the Bucs follow up with a trip to Gardner-Webb (Mar. 18) and Campbell (Mar. 19).

Three Bucs boast individual winning streaks heading into the Wednesday afternoon match with Madalina Man (4), Filippa Ericson (3), and Valeria Koussenkova (1) all coming off of wins in singles action against UNC Greensboro. Sophie Cloessner (5-2), Ericson (5-3), and Koussenkova (5-2) all boast five wins apiece in dual match singles play this season.

The doubles duo of Cloessner/Man has been among the conference's best this year with a 7-2 record on court no. 1. Kimberley Koerner and Yana Morar have been among the top CSU doubles tandems with a 6-3 record on court no. 3. Ericson/Koussenkova are 5-3 in doubles play on court no. 2.

Presbyterian enters the Wednesday matchup with a 5-5 record on the year and a 0-1 mark in Big South play. The Blue Hose have dropped their last two matches with losses at Winthrop and Colorado State following wins over Western Carolina and Kennesaw State.

Beth Taylor has been the star in Presbyterian's lineup this season with an impressive 10-0 record on the year while playing matches on courts 2, 3, and 4. Caroline Ferrari has a 5-4 record on the year while playing primarily on court no. 5, while Brittany Nuttall has seen a majority of the matches on court no. 1.

The duo of Nuttall and Taylor have the Blue Hose's lone winning record in doubles play this season with the partnership accomplishing a 5-2 mark on court no. 3.
