CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern got back to its winning ways on Wednesday afternoon as the Buccaneers topped visiting Radford, 5-2, at the Buccaneer Tennis Complex.
The Bucs (9-5, 5-2) swept the doubles point and then picked up singles wins on courts 3, 4, 5, and 6 to take the match against the visiting Highlanders. Radford (8-7, 2-2) took the singles point on courts no. 1 and 2 for their two points in the match
Sophie Cloessner and Madalina Man sparked the Bucs in doubles play as the duo topped Natalie Sayer and Tyler Blalock on court no. 1, 6-0. Filippa Ericson and Valeria Koussenkova followed shortly afterward with the 6-4 win over Drousile Dzeubou and Lotti Meszaros on court no. 2.
Schmitz had the hot hand in singles play with a dominant 6-1, 6-0 win over Zoe Fraser on court no. 6 to put the Bucs ahead 2-0. Man followed shortly after with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Blalock on court no. 4 to stake the Bucs to the three-point advantage.
Ericson secured the CSU match win with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Sayer on court no. 3 to give the Bucs the 4-0 lead. Koerner followed shortly afterward rallying back from a first set deficit to take the 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-7) win over Jeanie Acierto on court no. 5.
Meszaros put the Highlanders' first point on the board with a 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (11-9) win over Koussenkova on court no. 2.
Dzeubou closed out play with a win in the third set tiebreak over Cloessner on court no. 1. The CSU senior rallied back from a tough first set loss, 7-6, to take second set, 6-2. In the tiebreak, Dzeubou secured the win with the 10-6 victory.
