CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) - Charleston Southern's Michelle Schmitz was named the Big South Women's Tennis player of the week as announced by the conference office on Tuesday morning.
Schmitz led Charleston Southern to its first win in program history over Lowcountry rival College of Charleston. She took the deciding match on court no. 3 for the Buccaneers as the two teams went down to the final point. Schmitz's match went into the deciding third set as well. Schmitz took the opening frame over Lily LaBiche, 6-3, before dropping the second set, 4-6. In the deciding set, the CSU sophomore proved victorious with the 6-3 victory to clinch the win for CSU.
Later in the week, Schmitz picked up her second win of the week with a vicory over Kiah Turner of Hampton (6-1, 6-1) on Saturday.
The Buccaneers have won four of their last five matches as CSU continues the season this weekend at home against Gardner-Webb. First serve on Saturday in the Big South match is set for 1pm.
