CSU Falls to UNC Asheville in Midweek Match

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Charleston Southern suffered a narrow defeat on the road at the hands of UNC Asheville on Wednesday afternoon.

The Buccaneers (5-6, 3-2) split the first two doubles matches with UNC Asheville (6-4, 1-2). Court three went down to the wire with the Bulldogs taking the match and the doubles point.

The Bucs won the first two singles matches on courts six and four with Liz Williams (6-1, 6-0) and Kimberley Koerner (6-4, 6-3) giving CSU a 2-1 lead. UNC Asheville proceeded to win the next three singles in a row on courts one, five, and three to take the match.

Madalina Man won her match on court two (7-5, 2-6, 6-3) to finish off the match.

  • Of the Bucs' three singles losses, two were in three sets.
  • Filippa Ericson and Kimberley Koerner also picked up their team-leading eighth doubles win on the year and have won seven in a row
  • Ericson/Koerner are a perfect 6-0 at the No. 3 doubles spot, but with today's win, are 2-3 at the No. 2 spot.

The Buccaneers return home the next week for back-to-back home matches on March 19 and 20. Presbyterian will visit Charleston on Tuesday ahead of S.C. State on Wednesday.
