Bucs Blank Lancers in Second Straight Road Win

FARMVILLE, VA. – Charleston Southern won all but two sets in their 7-0 shutout of Longwood to secure their second win in as many days on Wednesday afternoon.

The Buccaneers (7-7, 5-3) cruised through their first two doubles matches with 6-0 wins over the Lancers (10-6, 1-4). Filippa Ericson and Kimberley Koerner took the match on court three while Femcke Van Rensburg and Yana Morar won their second match of the week. Madalina Man and Tiffany Pyritz were leading 4-1 in their match when it was halted.

The Bucs won four of their six singles matches in two sets to secure the match victory. CSU's top two singles players, Man and Ericson, won 6-4, 6-1 and 6-3, 6-4 respectively. Koerner and Michelle Schmitz also won in straight sets, with Koerner winning of 7-6, 7-6 and Schmitz leading 6-2, 4-1 when her opponent retired.

Liz Williams rebounded from dropping her first set 1-6 to win the next two sets 6-2, 6-3. Tiffany Pyritz's match went to a third set tiebreak with the first sets going 6-2, and 5-7. The freshman prevailed and won the tiebreaker 10-7.

"I was very happy with the way the team bounced back this weekend," said CSU Head Coach Anca Dumitrescu. "The girls competed very well and were mentally strong from beginning to end. We need to continue to stick to the game plan and play with poise and composure one point at the time."

  • Madalina Man has now won five singles matches in a row. She holds a team-best seven wins in conference play
  • Filippa Ericson improves to 6-1 this season at No. 2 singles. She leads the team with nine wins overall.
  • Three players Ericson and Pyritz have six wins in Big South play.
