CONWAY, S.C. – Charleston Southern senior Rachel Lees won the high jump to lead the Bucs at the Shamrock Invitational, hosted by Coastal Carolina University. Demisha Norman and Brianna Watts-Pittman contributed top-ten finishes in the long jump to help headline a solid showing in head coach Tosha Ansley's squad's first outdoor event of the season.
Lees matched the second best effort of her career with a 1.60 meter jump to take first place in the field of 13 competitors. Fellow jumpers Demisha Norman and Brianna Watts-Pittman recorded 5th and 7th place showings, meanwhile, in the long jump. Norman jumped 4.99 meters, and Watts-Pittman was close behind with a 4.91 meter distance.
Senior throwers Joshlyn Noga and Talei Tagivakatini picked up where they left off in stellar indoor seasons by placing in the top quarter of the shot put field of 48 athletes. Noga and Tagivakatini tossed 12.56 and 12.55 meters, respectively, to finish 11th and 12th.
In the 800-meter relay, CSU's squad of Aluntrea Davis, Amanda Trapp, Jasmine Pilgrim and Kolisha Coleman crossed the finish line in 1:43.86 to take an 8th place standing. CSU junior distance runner Jessie Dotson also put forth a strong effort, placing 21st in the 5000-meter run with a time of 19:13.28.
CSU returns to action next Friday and Saturday at the Winthrop Invitational.
