CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern women's track and field program open up the indoor season this weekend at the Clemson Invitational held at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex on January 14.
The one-day event will be held on a newly surfaced facility that boasts one of the fastest tracks in the country. Five facility records fell this past weekend at the Orange & Purple Classic on Saturday afternoon and altogether, there were nine competitors who finished with times better than the previous facility records. The women's 200m, 300m, and 500m were all topped as well as the men's 200m and 300m.
The Bucs will compete in three more events as they ready themselves for the Big South Indoor Track & Field Championships scheduled for February 25-26 in Winston-Salem, N.C. Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Jim Stintzi leads one of the youngest teams in the conference with 17 freshmen listed on the roster heading into the 2017 indoor and outdoor season.
"We are looking forward to our first competition as a chance to gauge the progress we've made over the fall," Stintzi said heading into the first meet of the season. "Our staff is very excited about the combination of seasoned veterans and the new talent on the team this year."
The women's team was picked fourth overall in the preseason Big South Indoor Track & Field poll announced back on December 1.
