Bucs claim eight titles on final day of CSU Spring Break Invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern claimed eight individual and relay titles on Saturday to close out the final day of the CSU Spring Break Invitational at the Bagwell-Settle Track Complex.

Frankie Thomas defended his individual title in the men's high jump to highlight CSU's jumping efforts, while Alexus Foreman took top honors in the women's shot put to start off Saturday's competition. The Bucs also recorded top finishes in the women's 4x100m relay, the women's 100m hurdles, women's 800m race, the men's 800m race, the men's 3000m race, and the women's 4x400m relay to highlight the competition at CSU.

CSU returns to competition with next weekend's Weems Baskin Invitational hosted by the University of South Carolina on March 23-24 at the Sheila and Morris Cregger Track.

Sprints/Hurdles
Charleston Southern started off the track events in fine fashion on Saturday afternoon winning the women's 4x100m relay. The quartet of Shantel Ardley, Jasmine Pilgrim, Alexis Adams, and Diamond Rush crossed the line in 46.96 to top the field and take the championship.

On the men's side, the Bucs took third in the field with the quartet of Niegel Simmons, Justin Green, Vincent Johnson, and Davion Pressley crossing the line in 42.87.

Vincent Johnson had a quick turnaround time with the men's 110m hurdles finals the next event on the track. The sophomore finished fifth in the field with a time of 15.34 to lead the Bucs.

Caroline Edmondson topped the field in the women's 100m hurdles after setting the top time in Friday's qualifying rounds. The sophomore athlete finished in 14.50 edging Liberty's Kylie Polsgrove for the individual title on the day.

Alexis Adams took on the field in the women's 400m seeded race. Adams finished seventh in the field with a time of 1:02.14 to pace the Bucs.

Josiah Scarlett and Justin Green took on the field in the men's 400m seeded finals on Saturday afternoon. Scarlett placed seventh overall with a time of 50.77, while Green placed eighth in 51.00 in the field.

Jasmine Pilgrim and Diamond Rush finished in the top two spots in the women's 100m dash finals on the back stretch of the track at the Bagwell-Settle Track Complex. Pilgrim took top honors with a time of 12.09, while Rush placed second overall with 12.15 in the event. Shantel Ardley was sixth overall with a time of 12.50.

Davion Pressley placed seventh overall as the men's lone representative in the 100m dash finals. Pressley crossed the line in 11.48.

Georgina Russell breezed her way to the women's 800m title as the redshirt senior topped the field by over seven seconds. Russell crossed the line in 2:15.58 to take top individual honors, while Traci Drayton finished fourth with a time of 2:29.65. Russell's time was the fourth-fastest in CSU history.

Andrew Akright and Jaymee Domoney led a deep CSU field in the men's 800m race with the duo finishing 1-2 in the event. Akright finished the event in 1:55.39 to top the field, while Domoney was next across the line in 1:56.24. Brandon Damon (1:59.51, 4th), Keith Terry (1:59.75, 5th), Joshua Bowers (2:00.11, 6th), and Kyle Morrell (2:00.26, 7th) rounded out the six-man group that competed in the event.

Shantel Ardley finished second overall in the women's 400m hurdles finals to lead the Bucs in the event. The sophomore crossed the line in 1:07.02, leading teammate Nina Massie who finished eighth in 1:11.93.

Josiah Scarlett had a strong performance in the men's 400m hurdle finals placing second overall in the event. Scarlett crossed the line in 55.02 to lead the Bucs.

The CSU women closed out the CSU Spring Break Invitational with a dominant showing the 4x400m relay as the Bucs' A quartet was the lone team to finish under four minutes in the event. Alexis Adams, Caroline Edmondson, Jasmine Pilgrim, and Shantel Ardley crossed the line in 3:58.57 to pace the event. The CSU B team of Kaitlyn Pierce, Diamond Rush, Javenique McDowell, and Traci Drayton took fourth in 4:12.32.

Charleston Southern's B team took the final Buccaneer result of the day as the quartet of Keith Terry, Andrew Akright, Joshua Bowers, and Jaymee Domoney finished fourth overall in the men's 4x400m field. The CSU quartet finished in 3:26.29.

Jumpers
Timothy Davis was one of two athletes to clear 14 meters in the men's triple jump to place second overall in the field. Davis' fourth attempt went 14.35m to place him behind Benedict's Kaleb Daniels (14.55m) in the event.

Frankie Thomas defended his CSU Spring Break Invitational title in the men's high jump on Saturday morning. The sophomore jumper cleared 2.00m on his first attempt to secure the title at the Bagwell-Settle Track complex.

Victoria Gibson and Caroline Edmondson both took on the field in the women's high jump with Gibson earning a podium spot in the field. Gibson finished third overall with a clearance of 1.50m in the event, while Edmondson placed sixth after topping 1.50m.

Victoria Gibson was also among the leaders in the women's triple jump on Saturday morning. Gibson achieved 10.99m on her third attempt after fouling her first two tries to place third overall in the field.

Throwers
Clarence Moss topped the CSU throwers in the men's discus field to start off the morning at the Bagwell-Settle Track. Moss took second overall with his final throw of 43.05m putting him behind Benedict's Jonhoi Clark on the leaderboard. Ryan Spiecha finished fifth in the event with a throw of 40.59m on his first attempt, while JP Caglione was sixth with his first throw of 40.18m putting him on the board. Seth Wolfe rounded out the group in seventh with a throw of 38.91m coming on his first attempt of the day.

Alexus Foreman took the individual title in the women's shot put event as CSU swept the top three positions on the leaderboard. Foreman's top throw of 13.81m came in her second attempt of the day and was 1.63m ahead of her closest competitor and teammate, Madison McCoy (12.18m, 2nd). Milan Williams rounded out the group in third with a throw of 12.02m in her fifth attempt of the morning. Caroline Edmondson was also in the top eight for the Bucs with a throw of 10.16m on her first attempt of the day.

JP Caglione and Ryan Spiecha were both near the top of the leaderboard in the men's shot put with the duo placing second and third in the event. Caglione achieved 15.93m on his final attempt to take second in the field. Spiecha connected on a throw of 15.55m on his first attempt to take third. Seth Wolfe was sixth in the field with his throw of 14.23m coming on his fourth attempt. Clarence Moss was ninth overall with a throw of 11.92m. Roy Hyman placed 15th overall to round out the group with a throw of 8.43m.

Madison McCoy topped the CSU lineup in the women's discus event placing fourth overall in the field as one of four athletes to clear 40 meters on the day. McCoy's best throw of 41.36m came on her fourth attempt. Milan Williams was sixth in the field with a throw of 37.40m, while Alexus Foreman was 10th following her throw of 30.42m.

Distance
Matt Inman led a Charleston Southern sweep of the top three positions in the men's 3000m race as the Bucs topped the field in the lone distance competition on the day. Inman crossed the line in 8:53.17 to take top honors, while Adam Huff was second with a time of 8:55.80. Hayden Alexander rounded out the top three in 8:59.13 to take the third spot. The CSU trio recorded the second, third, and fourth-fastest times in program history with only Michael Bailey's mark of 8:51.82 set in 2011 at the Duke Invitational topping their efforts.
