TRACK Preview: Bucs continue season at Charlotte invitational

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Charleston Southern continues the 2018 regular season slate this weekend at the Charlotte Invitational hosted by UNC Charlotte on April 13-14. The two-day event will be hosted at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center at Transamerica Field.

Charleston Southern and 12 other institutions will take on the field this weekend. Fellow Big South rivals Gardner-Webb and Winthrop will also be in competition at the event this weekend. Appalachian State, Benedict, host Charlotte, Davidson, N.C. State, Norfolk State, Ohio University, UNC Wilmington, USC Upstate, and Wake Forest will also be in competition throughout the events.

After not making the trip to Charlotte in 2017, the Bucs return to the Queen City this weekend. CSU's last trip came on March 17-19 at the 49er Classic in 2016. CSU alum E.J. Reddick set a personal best en route to winning the triple jump surpassing his prior best with an effort of 15.29m to pace the 30-competitor field.

Joshua Paramore added a third-place finish in the 100m dash finals two years ago with a time of 10.54.

The women's 4x100m relay team also boasted a top finish in the field two seasons ago with the quartet of Aluntrea Davis, Jasmine Pilgrim, Danielle Burnett, and Kolisha Coleman placing second with a time of 45.98 seconds.

The Bucs' previous success at the Irwin Belk Track and Field Center bodes well for CSU this season as new records and top finishes occurring every time they compete.

Last weekend at the Gamecock Invitational the Bucs had a trio place in the top three in the women's triple jump, the men's hammer throw, and the men's shot put. Overall, CSU recorded 16 top 10 finishes at the Morris and Sheila Cregger Track.

Tamara Damjanovic continued a strong freshman season placing third overall in the triple jump on the season clearing 11.69m. JP Caglione was the top finisher in the men's hammer throw with a third-place finish following his throw of 50.47m, while Ryan Spiecha's shot put throw of 15.27m was third in the field.

Friday's events start with the women's' heptathlon 100m hurdles at 2 p.m. and the men's decathlon 100m dash at 2:30 p.m. The distance carnival starts Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. with the women's 1500m heats.

Results and heat sheets will be posted in at the middle of the top of the grandstand. Results will also be visible on the scoreboard after each race. Complete results will be available at shortly after the completion of the meet.
