Buccaneers take the 4x400m relay title to headline first day of Carolina Challenge

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Charleston Southern's 4x400m relay team won its second title in three meets to headline the Buccaneers' efforts on the first day of the Carolina Challenge at the South Carolina Indoor Track & Field facility.

  • Rhone' Allen – 60m dash open qualifying round (Second, 7.67)

Caroline Edmondson continued to showcase her ability in her signature event this season. The junior was nine-hundredths off the pace in the women's 60m hurdles open on Friday to finish sixth overall in the field with a time of 8.83. Chaneal Harris added a top-10 finish in the field with a time of 8.90.

Edmondson wrapped up the 60m hurdles event in the semifinals finishing 26th overall among the invitational field with a time of 8.96.

Rhone' Allen continued to flash her speed in the signature sprinting event of the day. The freshman was second overall in the women's 60m dash qualifier after crossing the finish line in a blistering 7.67 pace. Junior Shantel Ardley was 17th in the field in 7.92.

Eden Senior took on the field in the women's 400m dash open event on Friday. The freshman eclipsed her seed-time of 58.24, finishing in 57.68 to place 32nd overall in the field.

CSU's 4x400m relay team won their second title of the season as the team of Shantel Ardley, Eden Senior, Rhone' Allen, and Caroline Edmondson blew away the field. The quartet finished in 3:54.13 thanks in part to Edmondson's finishing kick (57.491) to surpass Benedict (3:56.59) and Southern Wesleyan (3:57.53) to take the title.

Lauryn James was the Bucs' top finisher in the women's 60m dash invitational round. The freshman crossed the line in 7.61 to place 15th in the field. Allen finished five spots back in 20th with a time of 7.70.

Victoria Gibson continued to climb this season as the junior led the Bucs in the women's triple jump event. She reached 11.33m to finish seventh overall in the event.
