CHARLOTTE, N.C. (BigSouthSports.com) - Charleston Southern sophomore libero Madison Martin was named the Big South Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Martin averaged 5.85 digs per set this past week in leading the Buccaneers to a 2-1 record with wins over UNC Asheville and previously unbeaten Radford. The Birmingham, Mich. native recorded a career-high 36 digs in Friday's four-set win over the Highlanders with 10 digs in both the first and third sets, and 11 digs in the deciding fourth set to clinch the match.
Martin had a team-high 17 digs and seven service aces in Tuesday's four-set win over UNC Asheville and finished the week with 23 digs on Saturday against Liberty. Martin currently leads the Big South Conference in conference play with 5.12 digs per set.
CSU continues the 2016 season this weekend at home as the Bucs host UNC Asheville and High Point. First serve for the Bucs against Asheville is set for 7 p.m. in the Buccaneer Field House on Friday night. CSU and High Point are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
UNC Asheville middle blocker Madison Vaughn was named the Big South Volleyball Player of the Week, while Liberty middle blocker Anna Gragg has been selected the Come Ready Nutrition Freshman of the Week.
