CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charleston Southern freshman middle blocker Kalysia Bates was named Big South Volleyball Freshman of the Week as announced by the Big South Conference office on Monday afternoon.
Bates helped Charleston Southern go 2-0 during the second week of conference play. She had 19 kills (2.38 per set) and 13 blocks (1.62 per set). Bates began the week with eight kills, a .294 hitting percentage and four blocks in a sweep at home versus Gardner-Webb. She then upped her totals to 11 kills and nine blocks in a five-set win against Presbyterian.
High Point senior outside hitter Haley Barnes has been named the Big South Volleyball Player of the Week. Also, Winthrop junior defensive specialist Carlie Skelton is the Defensive Player of the Week for matches played Sept. 25-30.
Also nominated for Player of the Week: Madison Linxwiler (Campbell), Kylie Klein (Charleston Southern), Anna Gragg (Liberty), Maddie Palmer (Radford), Cara Guthrie (UNC Asheville) and Siani Yamaguchi (Winthrop).
Also nominated for Defensive Player of the Week: Kayla Schanback (Campbell), Madison Martin (Charleston Southern), Molly Livingston (High Point), Margaret Latchford (Liberty) and Kaylor Nash (Radford).
Also nominated for Freshman of the Week: Hannah Schneggenburger (Campbell), Abby Bottomley (High Point), Cecelia Stack (UNC Asheville) and Ara Wilson (Winthrop).
