Burkholder leads Buccaneers at VertClassic Invitational in final tune-up before Big South Championships

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. - Madison Burkholder led Charleston Southern in the Buccaneers' final tune-up before the Big South Conference Championship as CSU took on the field at the VertCross Invitational hosted by High Point on Friday afternoon.

The Boiling Springs, S.C. native finished 119th overall in the field on the six-kilometer course with a time of 24:28.5 to pace the Bucs on the afternoon. CSU finished 20th overall in the field featuring multiple national- and regionally-ranked teams.

Freshman Kaitlyn Black was the second Buccaneer to cross the line placing 160th overall. The Summerville native crossed the line at 25:28.36.

Fellow freshmen Bethany Thornhill (26:16.13), Areale Frazier (28:34.42), and sophomore Traci Drayton (27:42.28) also took on the course for CSU.

Charleston Southern is back in action at the Big South Conference Championships hosted by UNC Asheville on October 28.
