Bucs take third consecutive top-five finish at High Point Vertcross Invitational

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. - Paced by strong performances by Caroline Inman and Makennah Mills, Charleston Southern finished fifth at the High Point Vertcross Invitational on Friday afternoon.

The Buccaneers recorded their third consecutive top-five team finish on the season and finished third among the Big South teams in competition at the meet. High Point (2nd) and Campbell (3rd) topped the Bucs, while Radford (11th) also took on the field in the de facto Big South Championships preview match.

Inman took top honors for the Bucs for the fourth time this season as the freshman finished 14th overall in the field. The Lexington, Ky. native crossed the finish line in 18:49.06 to pace the Bucs in the event.

Mills continued to showcase the depth CSU has developed under Coach Aaron Iaun finishing two seconds behind her teammate to take 15th overall. Bethany Thornhill rounded out the top three with a 26th place result in 19:17.64.

Zanelle Willemse was just below the 20-minute mark in the race finishing 48th overall with a time of 19:59.02. Javenique McDowell rounded out the scoring for the Bucs in the event in 64th with a time of 20:25.82.

Rebecca Cadet and Darrian Cole both posted top-75 finishes in the deep field. Cadet placed 73rd overall with a time of 20:53.83. Cole was two spots back with a time of 20:57.12.

Taylor Barnes continued to make strides in her sophomore season with the Bucs finishing 86th with a time of 21:13.66. Grace Schvaneveldt was 111th after crossing the line in 22:09.13.

Sarah Taylor rounded out the Bucs in the race with a time of 24:04.75.
