Laura Ortega was added as a graduate assistant for the women's basketball team in August of 2025. Ortega was a member of the Charleston Southern women’s basketball program for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 seasons, bringing an accomplished international and junior college background to the Buccaneers.

Ortega appeared in six games and made one start during her senior campaign in 2024-25, pulling down two rebounds apiece in contests at LSU and South Carolina State. As a junior in 2023-24, she saw action in three games and recorded one rebound before her season was cut short due to injury.

Prior to her time at CSU, Ortega starred at Highland Community College, where she helped lead the team to the 2023 NJCAA Region IV Championship and earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team in her final season.

A native of Spain, Ortega comes from a decorated basketball family. Her parents, aunt, and uncle all played professionally, and both of her brothers—as well as two cousins—compete professionally in Spain.
