LUBBOCK, Texas - The Charleston Southern Buccaneers fell to the American University Eagles this afternoon at a score of 60-49. The loss drops CSU's record to 3-4 (0-0 BSC) on the season and improves American's record to 3-4 (0-0, Patriot League). This was the final game of the World Vision Classic Tournament for both teams. Buccaneer senior guard Kelsey Wasmer was named to the All-Tournament team for her performance over the Bucs three games in Lubbock.

Both teams struggled shooting in the first half. The Bucs shot 20 percent and the Eagles of American shot only 34 percent from the field. They did however put in 5-of-10 from behind the arc. All of American's makes from behind the arc came in the first half.

American went on an early 17-0 run to take a 16-point lead. The Bucs shooting touch went cold during American's run, going 0-for-7 from the field in seven minutes of game time. The Lady Eagles of American led at a score of 31-19 at the end of the first frame, after the Bucs made a 7-0 run of their own.

The Bucs were only able to cut the deficit to 12 points in the second half, and the lead hovered around 15 for most of the second-half. The 17-0 run by the Eagles in the first half proved too much for the Buccaneers to overcome.

Charleston Southern has only the turnover battle only once this season in their loss to Texas Tech earlier in the World Vision Classic. Today the Bucs once again won the turnover battle, forcing 20 from the Eagles and committing 17 of their own. Learning to value possession of the ball will be paramount to having a successful Big South campaign.

Eleven Buccaneers made an appearance in today's contest including three freshmen. That game experience against a quality opponent will also prove useful when the Bucs begin playing familiar conference foes.

The Eagles leading scorer was Lisa Strack who shot 3-of-4 from behind the arc.

Leading the Bucs in scoring was senior Kelsey Wasmer. She put in 18 points for CSU on 7-of-14 shooting. Also having a nice game for CSU was sophomore forward Lakeitha Alston who had eight boards and eight points in the losing effort.

The Buccaneers tough non-conference slate continues this Wednesday when they will travel to Colombia, S.C. to take on the Lady Gamecocks of South Carolina University.

An early tip-off of 11 a.m. is scheduled for Wednesday's match up between the in-state opponents.
