SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Asheville (8-7, 1-3 BSC) ended a three-game losing streak and
picked up its first Big South Conference win of the season with a
65-53 victory at Coastal Carolina Saturday afternoon. Lindsey
Montgomery led the Bulldogs with 13 points and 11 rebounds, while
Kelli Riles had her seventh double-double of the season with 12
points and 11 rebounds.
Asheville went 8-22 last season. The Bulldogs have already
matched their win total from last year as Asheville brings an 8-7
record into Monday's Big South tilt.
BRIEF SERIES HISTORY
The Bulldogs of UNC Asheville own the all-time series lead with
28 wins to 23 losses.
The last meeting between the two schools was a high scoring
affair that resulted in a 90-87 win for the Buccaneers on February
6, 2010.
Six different players scored in double figures as the Charleston
Southern women's basketball team held off a feisty University of
North Carolina Asheville squad 90-87 Saturday night at CSU Field
House.
All five CSU (12-10, 4-5 Big South Conference) starters scored
in double figures, led by Kelsey Wasmer who scored a game-high 20
points. She also had a game-high six assists and three steals.
Katie Tull and Tina DeCarvalho each knocked down four
three-pointers and scored 14 points. Ali Schwagmeyer recorded her
first double-double of the season and the sixth of her career with
13 points and a career-high 15 rebounds, and LeChell Rush added 12
points. Shay Jones came off the bench and scored 12 points with 10
of them coming from the free-throw line (10 of 11).
Tull's four trey's gave her 79 for the season, breaking the
Charleston Southern mark for made three's in a single season
previously held by Wasmer (76 last year).
Lindsey Montgomery and Lindsey Thompson both scored 18 points to
pace the Bulldogs (6-16, 1-8 BSC). Kendall Shepard added 16 and
Chioma Okoli scored 11.
TULL APPROACHING YET ANOTHER MILESTONE
CSU guard Katie Tull has been locked in from downtown throughout
her career. She currently ranks No. 2 all-time in the Big South
with 258 career three-pointers.
She needs only 5 more treys to take over the No. 1 spot in the
Conference as former Winthrop guard Tiffany Rodd is ranked No. 1
with 263. She set the single season record with 100 three-pointers
last season and this season she poured in nine treys against
Voorhees on Nov. 16. The nine triples set the CSU single game mark
and was one off the Big South single game standard . She currently
has 51 three pointers on the season and is on pace to break her own
record of 100 triples on a season in the Big South.
OWNED IN THE DOME
Asheville has lost three of the last four times it has played at
the CSU Fieldhouse. The Lady Bucs won both meeting last season.
TOP TEN IN THE NATION
Charleston Southern senior guard Katie Tull is presently third
in the NCAA in three pointers made per contest with 3.6 made threes
per game.
Charleston Southern as a team is presently ranked 15th in the
nation in that same category averaging 7.9 makes from deep per
game.
TEXAS TWO STEP
Charleston Southern boasts two of the conference's top three
scorers this season. Katie Tull is currently third in the Big South
with 14.4 ppg. Kelsey Wasmer is not far behind Tull with 13.7 ppg
average. Both are in their senior seasons at CSU and both hail from
Texas.
