CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Charleston Southern women's basketball team (5-2) capitalized on 32 College of Charleston miscues, scoring 36 points off of turnovers to down the Cougars 64-45 on Wednesday night at TD Arena in downtown Charleston.

Lakeitha Alston, who has scored in double figures every game this season, led all players in scoring with 19 points while Kiki Rutledge put 14 and assisted on five buckets. Anicia Dotson chipped in ten points and led the way with six rebounds for the Buccaneers. CSU outscored CofC 30-12 in the paint.
The Buccaneers allowed just one College of Charleston player to finish in double figures, as Christy Hewatt put up 12 points. Cathryn Hardy, who went 7-of-11 from the free-throw line, put up nine points while Mikaela Hopkins led the rebounding effort with 10 boards. CSU limited the Cougars to 34.1 percent from the field, though they shot 41.7 percent on 3-pointers.
Dotson and Rutledge each buried an early 3-pointer to help the Bucs jump out to an 8-2 lead just over three minutes into the action. Two steals by Alston led to two more buckets for CSU, stretching the lead 10-4. Dotson and Erin Bratcher hit back-to-back shots from downtown put the Bucs up by 12 with 13:23 to go in the first half.
Another trey, this time from Terry, put the lead at 17 and soon after a fast break layup from Shay Jones put it at 20. Dotson hit CSU's sixth 3-point shot of the night to give the Bucs a 34-11 lead with eight and a half minutes to play. The Cougars battled back at the free-throw line as Hardy sunk two to cut the CofC deficit to 21. However, the Bucs added four points in the paint to take a 25 point advantage before layup by Rutledge gave CSU its biggest lead of the half at 40-14 with 4:16 left to play. Hardy hit two more at the charity stripe before Alyssa Frye nailed a three from the Cougars as the Bucs took the 40-19 lead into halftime.
Neither team scored for almost the first two minutes of the second half until a layup by Coward broke a six-minute dry spell for the Bucs. A jumper by Hewatt cut the lead CSU lead to 18 early in the second half, but and 8-2 scoring run by the Bucs gave them plenty of breathing room with the score at 53-28. The Cougars put together a 9-4 run of their own, but were unable to do much to cut into the deficit as the Bucs stayed ahead 58-37.
A 3-pointer by Frye cut the CofC deficit to 21 with three and a half minutes to go and Jazz Green added in two in the paint to bring the lead under 20 at 62-43. Alston added in a bucket for the Bucs while the Cougars made two trips to the free-throw line, coming away with two points in the final minute as Charleston Southern took the 64-45 win.
