ASHEVILLE, N.C - The Buccaneers of Charleston Southern defeated the Bulldogs of UNC Asheville at a score of 98-79, breaking several records in the process. The win improves the Bucs' record to 11-13 (5-6, BSC) and drops the Asheville Bulldogs to 10-15 (3-9, BSC).

The Bucs broke the Big South record for three point field goals made in a game with 18, a record they themselves previously owned. CSU set that record set last season at High Point, on Feb. 9, 2010, when they made 17 from beyond the arc. The Bucs were unconscious from three point land in the first half. Eleven of their 18 three point makes came in the opening frame.

Wasmer hit a three just nine seconds into tonight's contest. It would be a sign of things to come for the Buccaneers who had a wire-to-wire win, never surrendering the lead to their opponent.

After a disapointing outing against High Point in which she was held scoreless for the first time in her CSU career, senior guard Kelsey Wasmer responded and led the Buccaneers with 23 points on the night. She shot an astounding 7-of-10 from beyond the arc.

The Bucs in fact hit on their first seven shots from the field and would continue their stellar shooting throughout the first half. They scored 58 points in the first half alone. That total was more points then the Bucs have scored in the entire game of ten previous contests this season.

At half time, the Bucs' lead was nineteen at a score of 58-39.

It was more of the same in the second half for Charleston Southern. They would bolster their lead to as many as 29 points, allowing for every available player to make an appearance.

It was by far the Bucs' best shooting night of the season. They shot 58% from the field (35-60) and 50% from deep (18-36).

Charleston Southern's point total of 98 was the third highest scoring output in CSU women's basketball history, and the program record for the most points ever scored in a Big South Conference game.

The Buccaneers had four players in double-figures on the night. Lakeitha Alston had 21 points, going 3-of-3 from deep. The Big South Conference's leading scorer Katie Tull added 14 points. Kiki Rutledge added 12 and the aforementioned Wasmer led all scorers with 23 points on 7-of-10 shooting from deep.

Leading UNCA in the losing effort was Lindsey Montgomery who had 20 points for the Bulldogs.

Charleston Southern will complete their three game road swing on Monday when they will travel to Clinton, S.C. to face the Presbyterian College Blue Hose. Tip-off for that game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
