Senior Sendoff: Houston captures 100M and 200M titles at Big South Championships

LYNCHBURG, Va. - CSU's Gabby Houston took championship honors in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes at the Big South Conference Championships.
Running into a head wind, the senior set the Big South meet record in the 100 meters with a time of 11.47, sixth-best time in the East region in the 2013 NCAA outdoor season. In the 200 meters, she crossed the line with a time of 23.45, setting another Big South record that was previously held by previous CSU star athlete and All-American Dionne Gibson.
Meme Jean continued her record-setting trend for the Bucs in the
100 meter hurdles, setting both Big South meet and conference
records with a time of 13.32. Her time puts her 11th in the East
Region and 19th in the nation in 2013.
The women's 4x100 meter relay team finished second overall as Jean,
Houston, Rashida Dooling and Mary Elliott finished behind Coastal
Carolina's squad. The Bucs crossed the finish line with a time of
46.39 in the event.
Mary Elliott, LaQuestis Scott, Meme Jean and Gabrielle Houston took
sixth overall in the women's 4x400 meter relay, crossing the line
with a time of 3:54.93.
In the discus event, Daisy Whitaker narrowly missed out on the top
three finish, coming fourth overall with a throw of 46.96 meters.
Tenasia White finished close behind in sixth place overall with a
toss of 44.88 meters, while Talei Kagivakatini rounded out the trio
in 12th place overall with a throw of 36.47 meters.
The triple jump saw Tamisha Foster finish third overall in the
event, finishing with a top jump of 12.17 meters, finishing 0.3
meters behind winner Amirah Al-Bayinnah of Coastal Carolina.
Sequoyah Casey placed seventh overall with a jump of 11.43 meters,
while Deona Jones placed 12th overall with a jump of 10.85
meters.
Also in the hurdles for the Bucs was Rashida Dooling as the
sophomore placed eighth overall with a time of 14.70.
LaQuestis Scott and Mary Elliott both entered the 400 meter finals,
placing sixth and eighth respectively in the event. Scott crossed
the finish line in a time of 56.81, while Elliott was close behind
with a time of 56.96.
Jean was also in the 200 meter dash for the Bucs on the afternoon,
finishing sixth overall as the sophomore finished with a time of
24.62.
Jessie Dotson placed 23rd overall for the Bucs in the women's 5000
meter run. The CSU freshman crossed the finish line with a time of
19:07.81 in her first Big South Conference Outdoor
Championships.
Late action on Friday night saw Adrienne Cuff and Heidi Dean battle
in the women's 3000 meter Steeplechase. Cuff placed sixth in the
event with a time of 11:12.43, while Dean wrapped up her CSU career
with a time of 12:32.61 in finishing 14th overall.
