Lady Bucs take sixth at Asheville Carnival Meet

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – Charleston Southern sophomore Jessie Dotson finished 10th overall with a time of 19:11 and helped pace the Lady Bucs to a 6th place finish at the Asheville XC Carnival.
Despite placing 6th, the Lady Bucs were close to contention.
"We were only out [of second place] by 40 points," CSU head coach Ryan Thompson said following the meet. "I know that seems like a lot, but really, it's not. That is just a few places here and there, and it is a different outcome."
Thompson also remarked that he was happy with the results at this point in the season.
"They all ran faster than we did last week at USC, but we were still a little sluggish," Thompson added. "We're at the point in the season where our legs are starting to get tired from the intensity of our workouts, but they ran well."
"I would have liked to have gotten Radford," Thompson added. "Beating another conference opponent would have been a big deal,"
The fifth-placed Highlanders finished just six points ahead of the Bucs. Host and Big South Conference foe UNC-Asheville placed first.
Running in her first race of the season, sophomore Jessie Dotson not only improved from her freshman campaign, but also helped pace the Bucs to a steady finish.
"I was happy with Jessie's opener," Thompson said. "She ran a 19:16 here last season. So she has obviously improved because she eclipsed her time. She was filling a different role on the team today too. She was our leader today. She even made a comment to me about 'Hey, this feels weird not following.' She did well taking on a new leadership role and not being able to run in our first event."
The Bucs had a good showing from their freshman class: Madison Burkholder (20:28), Mary Grace Hutchinson (21:39), Emily Lyons (20:49), Hannah Palm (20:08), and Madison Perkins (21:56). Senior Mary Davidson ran 20:35, shaving almost a minute from her time last week. Hannah Burkholder had a time of 21:15 in her first event of the season.
The Bucs run again next week at the Big South Preview at VMI.
