OPELIKA, Ala. – Jarrett Swan shot a career-best 4-under 68 and the Charleston Southern had the second-lowest total in the final round as the Buccaneers finished tied for seventh at the 2014 Tiger Invitational, hosted by Jason Dufner.
The Bucs shot a 283 (-5) in the final round, five shots back of champion Auburn's 278 at the Lake Course at Robert Trent Jones' Grand National.
Auburn ran away with the event after entering the day with a 10-stroke lead. The Tigers finished at 22-under with a three-day total of 842.
Swan made five birdies to lead the Bucs and top his previous career-low round of 69 by a stroke. He bounced back from a bogey on the third hole, his 12th, to finish with two more birdies over his final six holes and give the Bucs' their best round of the year to date. He finished tied for 15th.
"The guys played solid all day and the finish was awesome," CSU Director of Golf Mike Wilson said Tuesday. "Playing the last three holes at 3-under under was a great sign. This was a total team effort today and we will build on this round for the future. Those were nice rounds by Swan and Ross to shoot under par."
Seniors Ross Thomson and David Denlinger backed Swan's round with two low scores to give CSU a low total.
Thomson shot a 2-under with five birdies in his round as well, playing his last seven holes at 2-under to finish tied for 12th overall.
After a double bogey to open his day, Denlinger played a 13-hole stretch at 3-under to finish at even par on the afternoon and tied for 32nd in the tournament.
Will Pieper finished his second-straight tournament with his best round of the week. He shot a 1-over 73 and had four birdies on his last nine to give the Buccaneers their fourth score.
Sophomore Nico Baena closed out his tournament with an 80.
CSU returns to action March 23-24 at The Hootie, played at Bulls Bay Golf Club in Awendaw, S.C.
