
Buccaneers dominant in all facets in 74-33 win over Columbia International

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Four Buccaneers scored in double-digits for Charleston Southern as the Buccaneers ran away from visiting Columbia International on Tuesday night inside the Buc Dome in recording the 74-33 win over the Rams.
Tatum Jarvis led the way for the Bucs with 13 points as the sophomore forward connected on three three-pointers for her sixth straight double-digit scoring effort. Alyssa Mann also connected from deep three times in the contest to finish with 11 points and added four assists, while Alise Karlsone had 11 points and six rebounds in the Bucs win.
Rochelle Brophy added 10 points and two blocked shots as CSU held Columbia International to a 30.0% field goal percentage from the floor. The Bucs also held the 39-28 rebounding advantage behind eight boards from Monique Maximilien and six rebounds from Brianna Lakes.
The victory snaps a 10-game losing streak by the Bucs as CSU improves to 4-0 in non-conference home play this year inside the Buc Dome. CSU improves to 4-15 overall with the win, while Columbia International falls to 10-10 with the loss.
Both teams battled evenly over the first two minutes of the game as the score was tied at 4-4 following a layup by Maximilien. Makeda DeSouza put CIU ahead with a layup on the Rams' next possession before Jarvis drained her first three-pointer of the game to give the Buccaneers the lead for good.
Mann followed with her first three-pointer of the game from the top of the key sparking a 16-2 run as the Bucs went up 20-8 with 10:11 to play in the first half. The Bucs lead reached 18 at the break as Jarvis connected on a three-pointer from the left wing to send the teams into the locker room with CSU leading the way 34-16.
Out of the break CSU scored 13 of the first 14 points to take a 47-17 lead following a Brophy layup at the 14:34 mark. The Buccaneers' lead reached as many as 43 on a late free throw by Tamornay Harris as CSU closed out the home win over the Rams.
Charleston Southern shot 43.1% from the floor in the game and 83.3% from the free throw line led by Nayla Long's 5-of-6 shooting from the stripe. Harris scored a career-high six points in the game including a four-point play late in the second half as the junior connected on the deep three-pointer while getting fouled, and made the ensuing free throw attempt.
DeSouza led CIU with 12 points in the game, while Rebekah Hairston had eight points and three rebounds.
The Buccaneers forced 30 turnovers for the fourth time this season as the Rams coughed the ball up 31 times in the contest. CSU, who entered the game leading the Big South Conference with 10.22 steals per game, had 18 in the contest with 11 different players recording a takeaway led by Alecia Hardy's three steals.
Charleston Southern returns to Big South Conference play this weekend as the Bucs open up the second half of conference play on the road at the Winthrop Coliseum against Winthrop University. Tipoff in Rock Hill, S.C. is set for 1 p.m.
